Shifter Boot: It is almost guaranteed that if you have the original shift boot in your AW11, it is very ratty. For many years, a great source for replacement shift boots used to be from Ken Farrell from the MR2 list. I now have one on my car, and must say the improvement is very nice! Unfortunately, Ken stopped making these a few years back. No matter though, becasue Twosrus came to the rescue with a lambskin replacement. IMPORTANT!! When taking off you old boot or when installing a
new one be VERY careful with the fragile plastic tabs that hold the boot
in place. They can VERY easily snap.
Short throw shifter: Currently, Jonathan Oellrich, from the MR2 list is making short throw shifters to decrease shift throw, and increase feel. I have one and it does indeed work quite well; there is now significantly shorter throws. Jon says: "Well, I have had a few people still asking if I am selling any more of the short shift brackets, so I thought I would just update them and anyone else that might be interested. I have changed the kit slightly and the price is going down to $28 as a result of me not having to grind on a bolt to make it fit anymore. Also, it has recently been discovered that the bracket will mount on top of the TRD short shift kit, although its effect is obviously not as great as on the stock shifter--about 1/8" reduction in throw. For anyone not yet familiar, this is a bracket and hardware that will relocate the fore-aft cable attachment point on your shifter so that throw is shortened by about an inch (~20%) for stock shifters. It installs in about five minutes and adds no moving parts, so it should last a long time. If you are interested email me and I will tell you where to send a check. I need to do these in larger numbers now, because I've run out of the aluminum I was using and I have to either buy a special alloy of aluminum for the bracket or anneal and solution heat treat myself (nice to have an engineering school and its labs around sometimes...) due to the way the bracket is cold worked on installation for a better fit. So I will try to get a bunch at once, and if you want one please let me know quick as it will save me a lot of work to do a lot at once." If you are interested, and he is still making them , you can contact,
Jon at his website.
