Literature

First off, there is one book that no MKI owner should be without, The Toyota Service manual.  If you ever plan to work on your car for any reason, the service manual (a.k.a. BGB short for Big green book) will help greatly in letting you know what you are getting into.  It is an excellent guide, and is well laid out. Toyota has some of the best service manuals around. The Haynes and other manuals on the MR2 are no where near as good. The orginals can be had for $45 from Toyota publications.  However, many of the orginals are now out of stock, and the reprints cost about double that.  Nevertheless, it is still worth every penny.

The MR2 Brooklands edition, the Toyota Service Manual, and the Mr2 Book by Brain Long.

The MR2 Brooklands edition is a collection of all the MKI MR2 articles from the bigger car magazines from 84-88. It can usually be ordered from a bookstore.  A Gold edition has also been released which includes all Mr2s from 85-95.  Very interesting to find out what the major car magazines thought at the time.

Also published in 1998 was Brian Long's excellent book "Toyota Mr2  Japan's first Mid-engine production car:  The ISBN is 1902641000  The book has a wealth of information on the history and evolution of the MR2.

As far as other Literature goes, there is indeed one more book that should go on your list, "Road and Track's Guide to the all new Toyota MR2." The chances of finding this now however, are very slim. This was a special one off issue that was created by Road & Track during the introduction of the car.  This is a  very informative magazine that covers many different aspects about the car.  This is very hard to find today.  They can sometimes be found on eBay for around $75.

Old factory brochures can usually be found through automotive literature specialists for $5-10.

Also check eBay for all of these items as well.  You never know what you can find there.
