IPO Markets Hit Tough Times
[Wednesday, 18 August 2004] Google slashed the price of its planned IPO to $85 to $95 from $108 to $135.

[Wednesday, 18 August 2004] eCOST.com said it expects its planned IPO will price at $7 per share, a reduction from its previously stated range of $9 to $11 per share. eCOST.com is a wholly owned subsidiary of publicly traded PC Mall Inc. { MALL} PC Mall sells new, close-out, and refurbished brand-name merchandise on the Internet.

[Thursday, 26 August 2004] eCOST.com will sell 3.465 million shares at $5.80 per share rather than its previous plan to sell 3.15 million shares at $7.

Oil Prices Continue To Climb
[Friday, 20 August 2004] U.S. light crude set a record $49.33 a barrel. Oil prices are up 300% since the end of June 2004.

[Thursday, 19 August 2004] Google went public at $85 and opened at $100.00. It closed its first day of trading at $100.34, up 18%. GOOG shares have been added to the GDT::WatchList.

Hanger Orthopedic (HGR)
[Monday, 16 August 2004] HGR was the 2nd largest percentage gainer on the NYSE.

[Tuesday, 17 August 2004] HGR was up another 22% after yesterday's 16% gain.

Lynx Therapeutics (LYNX)
[Tuesday, 17 August 2004] LYNX shares were up 21+% on heavy volume. The depressed stock closed at $1.80.
Opsware (OPSW)
[Tuesday, 24 August 2004] Opsware announced that EDS likes their products to the extent that they signed a $50 million agreement, with an incremental $95 million of renewable options over five years. OPSW opened up 8.8% at $6.13 on the news (the stock spiked to $6.38). The stock closed the day up less than 3% at $5.78. Trading volume was 3.5 million versus an average of 0.8 million. Opsware reports financial results tomorrow (Wed.).

[Thursday, 26 August 2004] Opsware reported solid quarterly results. On Friday, 13 August 2004, OPSW closed at $4.82; yesterday's close was $6.15. The stock was down almost 4% in after-trading hours after Opsware issued its quarterly report. OPSW is a 'buy' when priced below $6. [Note: GDT::Portofolio average cost per OPSW share is $1.48.]

[Friday, 27 August 2004] OPSW started the week at $5.30 and closed the week up 16.7% at $6.18.

Stewart Enterprises (STEI)
[Monday, 23 August 2004] Costco has announced it is test-marketing the sale of coffins at two Chicago-area stores; thus, to an extent, making it a competitor of Stewart Enterprises. STEI shares closed Monday at $6.93. GDT::Portfolio is holding onto its shares that have an average cost of $4.08.

Viisage (VISG)
[Monday, 16 August 2004] Two brokerage firms issued 'Outpeform' ratings on VISG shares at about $5.40.
