"Although he may not always recognize his bondage, modern
man lives under a tyranny of numbers." -- Nicholas Eberstadt

I feel like a number I'm not a number I'm not a number Dammit I'm a man I said I'm a man --Bob Seger One is the loneliest number --Three Dog Night I am not a number, I am a free man! --The Prisoner Let's roll another number for the road --Neil Young To be number one, you must train like you are number two. --Maurice Greene Numbers are intellectual witnesses that belong only to mankind. --Honore de Balzac I'm 65 and I guess that puts me in with the geriatrics. But if there were fifteen months in every year, I'd only be 48. That's the trouble with us. We number everything. --James Thurber There are numbers in building; there are numbers in construction; there are numbers in business; there are numbers in photography; there are numbers in music; there are fractions in cooking. So wherever numbers are in real life, then let's go and meet them and work with them. --John Holt There are 1011 stars in the galaxy. That used to be a huge number. But it's only a hundred billion. It's less than the national deficit! We used to call them astronomical numbers. Now we should call them economical numbers. --Richard Feynman To non-European civilizations, the idea that numbers are the key to both wisdom and power, seems never to have occurred. --Arthur Koestler Any one who considers arithmetical methods of producing random digits is, of course, in a state of sin. For, as has been pointed out several times, there is no such thing as a random number--there are only methods to produce random numbers, and a strict arithmetic procedure of course is not such a method. --John von Neumann ...numbers have neither substance, nor meaning, nor qualities. They are nothing but marks, and all that is in them we have put into them by the simple rule of straight succession. --Hermann Weyl Numbers are intellectual witnesses that belong only to mankind. --Donore de Balzac If "Number rules the universe" as Pythagoras asserted, Number is merely our delegate to the throne, for we rule Number. --Eric Temple Bell Perfect numbers like perfect men are very rare. --Rene Descartes The world is full of big numbers, some of which mean something, but most people have no understanding or intuitive grasp of how big such numbers are, nor do they have shortcuts for doing arithmetic on them. --Brian Kernighan Never worry about numbers. Help one person at a time, and always start with the person nearest you. ---Mother Teresa Arithmetic is where numbers fly like pigeons in and out of your head. --Carl Sandburg Perfect numbers like perfect men are very rare. --in H. Eves Mathematical Circles Squared We must admit with humility that, while number is purely a product of our minds, space has a reality outside our minds, so that we cannot completely prescribe its properties a priori. --Karl Gauss Much as with people, there are irrational, perfect, complex numbers. --@MangaHigh tweet There is no safety in numbers, or in anything else. --James Thurber |
About nBAB Creation
There are numerous "events" that result in the creation of an nBAB. Examples: The first nBAB was about the number 4 and it was created after it was observed the the last names of the two co-founders of Google (Page and Brin) the two co-founders of Yahoo! (Yang and Filo) were all four characters long. Neil Young's 63rd birthday resulted in the creation of an nBAB about the number 63. Driving on Highway-61 resulted in an nBAB about the number 61. The death of George Carlin at the age of 71 prompted the creation of a nBAB about the number 71. The establishment of Armistice Day in 1919 caused an nBAB about the number 1919 to be created. An nBAB about the number 44 was created after Barack Obama was elected to become the 44th president of the United States. An nBAB about the number 309 was created after learning about a song titled "Phantom 309." Albert Hofmann, the founder of LSD, died at the age of 102 and an nBAB for 102 was created. The nBAB about the number 232 was created on July 4th of 2008, which is 232 years from 1776.
About MathBabbler's Number Analyst (MBNA)
The first nBAB was about the number four and it was created on 22 April 2005. This nBAB collection was established on 10 March 2006. On 18 April 2008, MathBabbler created the MBNA (MathBabbler Number Analyst) which is a collection of programs (functions) that help with the creation of nBABs. 36 BABs were created prior to the MBNA. 35 nBABs were created between 18 April 2008 and 11 November 2008 using the MBNA.

About the nBAB for 1957
Most nBABs are relatively static after they are created; however, there is one exception and that is the nBAB about the number 1957, which is the year MathBabbler was born. The nBAB about 1957 gets updated everytime MathBabbler learns something new about the number 1957.
